What Lake Mary is known for
Lake Mary is a Seminole County suburb about 18 miles north of Orlando, with a walkable downtown around City Hall and a busy office corridor along I-4 and International Parkway. AAA has its national headquarters in neighboring Heathrow, and firms like Deloitte, Verizon and Liberty Mutual have operations in the area. The city's team won the 2024 Little League World Series.
Lake Mary grew in the late 1800s from two railroad stops, Bent's Station and Belle Fontaine, on the South Florida Railroad between Sanford and Orlando, and lived on citrus, lumber and turpentine. The town is named for Mary Sundell, wife of the Reverend J. F. Sundell, and its first post office opened in February 1887. Lake Mary incorporated as a city on August 7, 1973, and office and retail growth along I-4 took off in the late 1980s and 1990s. Commuting professionals, families and retirees share a city of lakes, trails and guard-gated golf communities. Saturday mornings center on the farmers market at Central Park, while evenings pull people to Colonial TownPark on the other side of I-4.
Where to live
Lake Mary's oldest and largest guard-gated address, founded in 1985 by Jeno Paulucci on land once farmed for celery. Villages like Coventry, Stonebridge, Chelsea Park and Breckenridge mix attached homes, single-family houses and golf and lakefront estates around the private Heathrow Country Club.
