Life in Edgewater, FL

Edgewater sits on the Indian River just south of New Smyrna Beach, with a riverfront Riverwalk and mangrove paddling trails that launch from Menard-May Park. It is a boatbuilding town, home to Boston Whaler, EdgeWater Power Boats, Everglades and SOLACE Boats. Fishing, kayaking and rocket launch views across the lagoon are part of everyday life here.

Dr. John Milton Hawks settled the area and named it Hawks Park, promoting it as a New England village on Florida's east coast. By 1887 it had 41 houses, citrus and beekeeping drove the economy, and in 1888 steamboats shipped 11 tons of honey from town. The Florida Legislature renamed it Edgewater on October 24, 1924, and Boston Whaler moved its operations here from Massachusetts in 1993. Edgewater is a quiet riverside town of retirees, boaters, anglers and working families, many employed in local marine manufacturing. Days center on the river, the parks along Riverside Drive, and quick trips to the New Smyrna beaches a few miles away.
